01/20/05: Files back up, but not through portal!

We have moved, but we are not finished resetting the member pages. In the meantime, we can set up temporary download passes for Customers who signed up anytime since mid December and had problems with gaining KeyGens. We are a small part-time group and not a full time group. However, we can assure you that if we were a larger Full time company, this would have been resolved a long time ago. We are doing everything as fast an accurately as possible and we endeavor to keep our customers happy. Please Contact Support for info on getting a temporary manual pass to the files.

 12/08/04: New Patch, New Projects

We are still looking for a certified Linux/Unix sysadmin, and possibly, some distribution channels. We do need to sort through our Server and navigation changes, and you'll see those changes soon. For the moment, we are ramping up to a new patch release and we are planning an upgrade add-on for the game.

The new Upgrade Chapter, would include a Major plot related quest that bridges the Devil Whiskey adventures into the events of Dark Resurrection. The valiant adventurers will have opportunities for additional side quests, as well as some new items and recipes. The game will also be reinvigorated with the many of the most popular features, as selected by fan forum polls. We listen and we always keep you in mind when we choose a course of action.

The game will cater much to the modder community, which will also give the committed gamer more life from this game. Mods allow the game to constantly expand. This Upgrade/Chapter add-on, would be a continuation priced at about half the full game's release rate.

Please contact us if you are fellow developer or an interested gamer, or if you just want to talk to someone.

 09/07/04: Refresh your Browser

Refresh Your browser to make certain you are viewing the most current version. This also may mean dumping the 86 Trilobites of junk and temp files currently in your Temporary Internet Files folders.
A new mini-project is being 'discussed and it involves a bridge between the current game and the long planned first game, now sequel; "Dark Resurrection". The purpose is not only to bridge Stories, but resolve much of the unknown in DW (Who were the Black Claws? What is Latruin's Vile? Exorarcanists?). We will also be taking note of "Wish Lists" for improvements discussed in the Forums.
There is a definite need for more programmers to help with the new major upgrade and a new game in the works! Contact Us

If you have not considered purchasing the game, consider the expandability. The TOOLSET that comes with the game, allows EACH and every of of you to constantly expand the game on your own. 11/14/03: Still on track...

Greetings and salutations fans! This is just a quick update to reassure all our fans that we are still on track for our November 30 final release! We've just today posted an updated test release for our pre-order customers - if you haven't yet, check out our Goods page to pre-purchase your copy of Devil Whiskey today! One important improvement - there have been some issues with moving saved games from one version of the demo to another, largely with a somewhat random transformation in the inventories of the party. We have now fixed this problem - saved games should be easily movable from the demo (version 1.2.1 or later) forward (with minimal impact)! As always, questions and concerns are welcome. - Geordus Wordweaver

11/09/03: Comments on Shipping & Handling...

Greetings fans! There's been some concern expressed about the high costs of shipping and handling expressed in the prices for pre-orders. I'd like to re-assure our fans that we aren't money-grabbing here. Finding a fulfillment mechanism for small runs like ours is difficult, and after shopping around, we finally selected one that provided the services we needed at the lowest possible price. They pass their shipping costs on to us, and we have to pass them on to you. The cost is a simple function of the basic fee for packaging the product (i.e., 'handling', which is $3 per product), plus an estimate on shipping (since we haven't produced the boxes yet, we had to guess at the weight). We're even low-balling a little bit, and absorbing the difference in reduced profit over online sales for international orders.
Even so, we understand that our fans in Europe are a little dismayed by the high costs involved in the physical product purchase. We are working with a group to try to establish local-to-Europe (in the UK, specifically) distribution options. If you'd like to wait to see what happens with that, please feel free to pre-order the download version, and when we establish our European distribution options, you will receive a $20 credit towards that product. As for our fans in Canada and Mexico, I apologize for poor wording on our product page - the 'US' prices should be 'North America', and 'International' should be 'Over Seas'. Those have now been updated. Thanks, and as always, questions and concerns are welcome. - Geordus Wordweaver

11/07/03: Pre-sales available!

Hello again! It's a good day for us here at Shifting Suns Studios - we are happy to announce that pre-sales are now available! Check out our Goods section to pre-order today, and get immediate access to our test releases! As always, let us know if you have any problems, questions or concerns. Thanks for all your faith in us - the end is near - the full game will be out before you know it! - Geordus Wordweaver

11/06/03: Pre-sales almost here!

Hello again! Just a quick update to let everyone know that Devil Whiskey pre-sales, complete with immediate access to our test releases of the full game for those so inclined, will be available within the next 24 hours! We're working up the final details (getting the member site terms of use in place, etc.) and will be announcing the availability of pre-sales here as soon as they're ready. So keep your eye on the site, and be ready - the dream is almost reality! As always, comments and/or questions are welcome! - Geordus Wordweaver

10/27/03: Long Overdue Update

Greetings, faithful fans! I apologize for this much overdue update - we've been working very hard to try to get the game out by our previously announced date. The bad news is that, unfortunately, we won't make it. We've made it a priority to implement many of the feature requests we've heard from you, our fans, and additionally want to release the most well tested and bug-free game we can. In order to facilitate such a release, we are pushing the final release date back to November 30th.
All, however, is not lost. We are in the final stages of getting our pre-order system in place - on November 7th, we will offer the opportunity for our steadfast fans to pre-order Devil Whiskey, either via download only, or a physical boxed copy. Those who pre-order (any version) will be granted immediate access to our exclusive Rennibister Hall members site, where downloads of the test releases of the game will be available (should any desire early access), and we expect that we will have the full game available for download to those who have pre-ordered several days before our November 30th public release date.
So all is not lost - while we are slipping the release date, you, our faithful fans, will be able to have access ahead of schedule, should you so choose. Keep an eye on this site for more details. If you haven't yet played the demo, Download it now, and keep the faith - Devil Whiskey will be available in all it's full release glory soon! As always, comments and/or questions are welcome! - Geordus Wordweaver

10/13/03: Demo 1.2 BUG!

Hi all! This is a very quick update to let folks know that there is a problem with version 1.2 of the Demo (for Windows) - the configuration screen has been accidentally removed. We are fixing the problem now, and will have an updated demo, version 1.2.1, available later tonight. Keep your eyes here for an update just as soon as it's available. Our humblest apologies - we should have caught this! Comments and/or questions are welcome! - Geordus Wordweaver

10/12/03: Demo Version 1.2!

Hello again Devil Whiskey fans! I'm proud to announce the release of version 1.2 of the Devil Whiskey Demo! It's available now from our Download page! This is not just an update for the Windows version, but finally an updated Linux release as well, which should be much more stable and error-free! We've responded to the error reports we've received, and fixed all the major problems we are aware of. The version 1.2 update will bring any installation, be it 1.0 or 1.1, up to the latest. So go download it, and enjoy! Comments and/or questions are welcome! - Geordus Wordweaver

10/06/03: News and Discussion...

Hello Devil Whiskey fans! I just wanted to write a quick update to let folks know about a couple developments. First, tomorrow, October 7, there will be a moderated discussion with some of the Devil Whiskey development team over at RPG Codex - check it out! We'll try to answer any question asked, so bring your curiosity and join us!
Next, I'd like to mention that we're working as hard as we can to get the full game out by our announced release date. That work, however, hasn't blinded us to problems in the existing demo code base. We've found a couple common errors that cause critical failures, and are working now to get the fixes in place. Expect a 1.2 update to the Demo this weekend (along with the long-awaited Linux version 1.1 update) - keep an eye here, or check out our Download page for the latest! As always, keep the faith - the full release will be available soon, so keep your eyes here! Comments and/or questions are welcome! - Geordus Wordweaver

09/29/03: Update...

Greetings! This is just a quick update to let everyone know we're still alive, and working feverishly to get the full release done by the promised date! If you haven't downloaded the demo yet, check it out - it's available on our Download site! We also wanted to say that we are working hard to get the Linux version 1.1 update out. We solved some of the major problems this weekend, but ran into a couple other issues, things that when fixed will improve the stability of the Windows release as well! So expect a Windows version 1.2 with the Linux version 1.1, and expect it all just as soon as we can get it working and tested! As always, keep the faith - the full release will be available soon, so keep your eyes here! Comments and/or questions are welcome! - Geordus Wordweaver

09/19/03: Bug Workaround Identified!

Hello again, one and all! One of our fans has found a workaround for a bug that is common to a number of you - if you have an ATI graphics card and are experiencing problems with the text being garbled (or disappearing entirely), turn on the vsync option in the drivers. The problem is a known bug in the ATI drivers relating to graphical problems caused when the vsync option is disabled. I hope that helps those of you who have had this problem! If you haven't already downloaded the demo (or the patch), it's available on our Download site - so grab, and enjoy! We're working hard to get the full game ready by the promised release date, so keep your eyes here! As always, comments and/or questions are welcome! - Geordus Wordweaver

09/16/03: Demo Patch Available!

Greetings and salutations once again! Version 1.1 of the Devil Whiskey Demo is now available, along with a patch for those of you who already have 1.0! Please visit our Download site and grab the patch!
A couple notes on the patch: We've received numerous bug reports and suggested improvements to the game, and have implemented as many as we could reasonably handle in the time we had. We feel the demo is much more stable than it was, and are excited to offer the user-interface improvements that are evident in version 1.1. Several things have *not* been included, such as mouse support (which will not be available in the initial release of the full game, either, but is likely to be added in a future update). But for the most part, we believe we have made a very reasonable effort to improve and fix-up the game!
One final comment, regarding saved games. Saved games will migrate from 1.0 to 1.1, as they will migrate to the full release once it's available. Some of the changes and updates, however, in version 1.1 (and likely in the full release) will not be evident in older saved game files (for instance, shop inventories, which have been tweaked to make the game a little more difficult, are stored with your saved game). Also, older saved games may exhibit some item-related oddities - such as items being transformed into something else when updated to version 1.1. We apologize for any problems this may cause. Thanks again to all of our fans, and keep your eyes here - only 45 more days until the full game is released! As always, comments and/or questions are welcome! - Geordus Wordweaver

09/15/03: Demo Patch Update

Greetings and salutations! This is just a quick update to let everyone know that our recent demo offering (Download here) has been widely accepted, with more than 5,000 copies having been successfully transmitted by our dedicated servers alone! Also, we have received bug-reports and update requests from many of you, and have done our best to listen to each one and fix as many as possible. We have a patch/update to version 1.1 in the works - we're testing it now (to make sure we didn't break more than we fixed) and expect to have it available (as well as a full 1.1 installer for those of you who haven't downloaded the demo yet) tomorrow morning. It fixes many problems, including issues with poison, game crashes due to certain bard song combinations, and even game balance (we were getting a lot of complaints about it being too easy / too fast ;-). Expect the update tomorrow, and in the mean time, enjoy the demo as it is! As always, comments and/or questions are welcome! - Geordus Wordweaver

09/09/03: Demo Response Tremendous!

Greetings! This is just a quick update to provide some statistics on the response we've had to our Demo offering. Those of you still trying to Download our demo - please keep at it. We're adding mirrors as they notify us, and there are many unofficial mirrors out there as well - persistence is key - you'll get it! Overall, response has been very positive. There have been several bugs reported that our testing had failed to identify - a bug-fix patch will most likely be available this weekend some time, but I'm happy to report that for most of you, the game is working fabulously well, and you seem to be enjoying it! That you, our dedicated fans, are happy with our offering is the best reward we could hope for!
Now, for the statistics I promised - since our Demo went live approximately 36 hours ago, our two dedicated servers have provided over 1200 successful downloads, totaling over 130 Gigabytes (that's *bytes*) of traffic! For those who may be concerned about the downloadable edition of the final product and a similar problem with server load, we are working on solutions and promise to do our best to provide the full game on enough dedicated machines that these kinds of problems don't occur. Thanks again for all your enthusiasm and support, and keep your eyes here - the demo is just the beginning, come Halloween, the rest of the adventure will be yours! - Geordus Wordweaver

09/08/03: Demo Available- Update

Hello! I'd like to say that the response to our humble Demo offering has been overwhelming! I'd also like all of our patient fans to know that we are currently working as fast as we can to get mirrors established, a second dedicated download server, and a bit-torrent. As these updates become available, the main Download page will be updated. As always, questions and comments are welcome - and thanks for all of your enthusiasm! - Geordus Wordweaver

09/07/03: Demo Available!

Warmest greetings! The long awaited Devil Whiskey Demo is *NOW AVAILABLE*! Download it here today! If you want to host a mirror of our distribution, please, let us know and we'll add you to our official mirror list!
And, as promised, I announce here for the first time anywhere, our intended release date for the full Devil Whiskey game! So download the demo, and enjoy, knowing that the full game will soon be here! - Geordus Wordweaver

09/02/03: A Quick Update...

Greetings, faithful fans! This is just a quick update on our progress towards releasing the Devil Whiskey Demo. Our bug-hunting efforts have progressed well this past weekend, and we are happy to say that the delay has been positive - the final release of the Demo will be a much cleaner game than it would have been. We're also happy to announce that we are on track for the September 7 release! Keep your eyes on this site, and join our BLTalk fan forum for all the latest news! Also, don't forget - when the Demo is released, we'll announce the final release date for the full game, so keep the faith, and keep your eyes here! As always, questions or comments are welcome! - Geordus Wordweaver

08/29/03: A Slight Delay...

Once again I greet the, faithful fans! The good news is that we're continuing our internal testing, that we're squashing lots of nasty little bugs, and that the game will be ready very shortly! Also, the updated screenshots that were promised have been mixed in on the right - look closely, there are 6 new ones!
Now, for the bad news - we've had enough bugs, and of the right kinds, that we feel we'd be rushing things to release the demo this Sunday, as promised. In order to insure that we provide the best experience we can for you, our fans, we're slipping the release date of the demo by one week. It will be available, simultaneously for Windows and Linux, on Sunday, September 7th! At that time, we will announce the final release date for the full game, but to give you all a little heads up, it will likely be a date that is already associated with ghosts and ghouls... As always, keep the faith, and direct any questions or comments to me. We're almost there - it won't be long now! Keep your eyes here! - Geordus Wordweaver

08/25/03: Update from the Trenches
Greetings again, faithful fans! I'm sorry, but although new screenshots were promised in a recent mail to our fan list, I have not had the time to prepare them. Rest assured, however, that they will be updated before week's end! I'm happy to report that we are still on target for a demo release by the 31st of this month - less than a week away! We've begun testing our final release candidates, and are truly excited about being able to distribute even a piece of our game!
There have frequently been questions regarding internationalization - we will soon update the FAQ with the relevant information, but the general answer is that initially, only an English version will be available, primarily because there are parts of the game that don't lend themselves to translation (in a technical way). We will be working on making internationalization more possible, and hope to have both German and French versions available at some time in the future. Rest assured, if you purchase the English version and wish to change languages when others are available, it will not cost anything. We are, after all, doing this for you, our fans! Any questions or comments, of course, are welcome. We will be ready almost before you know it! Keep your eyes here! - Geordus Wordweaver

08/19/03: More Product Details
Greetings, one and all! We've once again updated our FAQ, this time providing two additional questions and answers. The first deals with international availability - the short answer is that yes, Devil Whiskey will be available to our fans all over the world! The second question is in regards to payment methods - at this time, we are promising PayPal at least, and are still considering other options. Keep the faith - we're still on track to have the Demo out by the end of the month! - Geordus Wordweaver

08/15/03: Clarifications
Hello to you again, fans of Devil Whiskey! Our recent update to our FAQ regarding physical distribution seems to have caused some small confusion among our fan base. To clarify our intentions, I have updated the relevant answer, and will try to state in the simplest of terms our distribution intentions here.
First, the game is not yet available, though it will be soon! Keep your eyes pasted to this site and you will know the instant it's finished!
As for distribution, we will be distributing the game in two ways: as a download, and as a physical, shipped product. It will be available at a cost of $25 for download, and a cost of $35 as a shipped product. Unfortunately, we do not have sufficient capital available to purchase the physical product inventory necessary to make it available as soon as the product is completed. In order to help us raise that capital, we will be doing two things. First, for those who cannot download a copy of the game, we will be offering pre-sales of the physical product as soon as the downloadable product is available (again, for $35). Those who pre-order will receive their product shipments first, as soon as the physical product is available. Second, we will be offering an upgrade option for those who purchase the game for download. If someone who purchases the game for download later decides they want a physical copy, they will be able to purchase one physical copy at a discounted price of $15.
I hope this has helped clear up any confusion. As always, if there are any questions or comments, let us know! Keep the faith - Devil Whiskey will soon be available! - Geordus Wordweaver

08/13/03: Physical Distribution...
Once again, greetings! Our subtle inquiry in our FAQ (updated again!) regarding physical distribution of Devil Whiskey was answered with an almost overwhelming desire to see such a thing come to pass! As a result, we've decided to offer Devil Whiskey as a shipped product, including a professionally printed manual and CD, in addition to offering it for download! Not only that, but to make up for the fact that it will take time for us to raise the necessary capital to purchase the physical products up front, we will be offering both pre-sales of the physical game, and an upgrade option to those who choose to purchase it for download - for only $15, you will be able to purchase a physical copy of the game once it's available! One last comment - compatibility won't be sacrificed in the physical game either - both Windows and Linux versions will be included in the shipped product! So once again, keep your eye here - we're closing in, and Devil Whiskey will be in your hands before you know it! As always, feel free to drop us a line if you have any questions or comments. - Geordus Wordweaver

08/07/03: Updated FAQ!

Greetings again Devil Whiskey Fans! Just a quick note to let you know that we've updated the FAQ! Check it out - it's got information on our Linux version, pricing for the final game, distribution plans, and even how we relate to the Open Source community! As always, feel free to drop us a line if you have any questions or comments. Keep the faith - Devil Whiskey will soon be a reality! - Geordus Wordweaver

08/04/03: Progress and Updates

Greetings Devil Whiskey Fans! We're still moving in the right direction - we expect to be code-complete on the Demo before the end of this month! Keep your fingers crossed - we may have the fully playable, downloadable *FREE* Demo available by the end of August; and I can promise that when that happens, the full game won't be far behind!

As for site updates - there are several. Check out our new, improved 'About' section! Also, the FAQ is being updated now - expect a great many questions and answers to be available before the end of the week! Keep your faith in us, and Devil Whiskey, which is already a great game, will be available before you know it! - Geordus Wordweaver

07/25/03: We're Not Dead!

04/15/03: New Staff, Coming Attractions and Progress
We found our Sys Admin and Programmers! We will post their names soon on the Team members list, along with their favorite choice of stone for Cairn design. We are still welcoming inquiries from artists talented in Digital 3D and 2D Art and we prefer custom designed non-Poser work. Links to web based galleries only. NO file attachments please.
I'm hoping Dano our new sys person can also help in here as we want to do some overhauling. We should get to that soon enough. Other news... We now are testing our very own forums and projects pages. We hope to say goodbye to Yahoogroups soon.
GAME NEWS? A lot has been done, but as usual, we are refining and over testing what we have. We figure that's the one advantage we have being an indie group. We now have a functional Arcanium (library for you modern types), store categories (armor, weapons, etc... and no more long lists) and a Casino. Take Care - Olias, Arcsinger

Paul Busman, one of our guest musicians has his own website where he is selling handcrafted Irish Whistles and Flutes, or is it just Whistles... Go take a look.
The holidays caught us on time, but we will show some shots of what has been done to the game. Please subscribe to our newsletter for more in depth talk and spend some money on organic foods and produce.

Well the game is making it's way towards completion. When more of the art is done, we'll start announcing public demo release time estimates. Right now, the art is about 85-87% finished. We will not be releasing many new monster pics, but more game world screenshots will be posted after Christmas.

Here a while back, we fell victims to a unique and new brand of criminal. This criminal is the Internet Domain Name hijacking type, know as the cybersquatter
Please read about it and give us ideas on how we can make life difficult for this loathsome scum. -:: For chat and news, please join our FAN GROUP too! We need your support.

We have some news to announce, but it's not the release date of the game. We will have that NEWS (not the release date) up next week and I will have the news days straightened out at that time too.
Incidentally, please email us if you are a writer of short stories, ballads or poems looking for exposure. We don't have a budget for it, but we can get your material out there and it wouldn't hurt, if you're somewhat prolific (...meaning you write enough to be able to submit short story samples; you don't just have one work you're banking on.) - Maximilian Arturo

We have been receiving good feedback from our testers and we are coming to terms to what type of game we have and where it will fit in the grand scheme of things. If you are expecting the latest Vid Card burning 3D super fighter, then carry on elsewhere my friend.
We hope that our 3D Environment-cum-2D interaction will be a breath of fresh air for the more pen-and-paper minded gamers, who are either older or wiser. Be well and I will make sure that the minor update gets online by the date specified.
